Pest infestations are serious problems that need immediate intervention. Hiring a pest control companyis the best way to solve these problems fast. To effectively eradicate pests, proper identification of the pest is needed along with the knowledge of their habitat and how they reproduce.

Here are some information on the habitation and mode of reproduction of common household pests.

Ants can be anywhere around the house. Ants are capable of entering even the smallest holes in search of a food source. They have the ability of leaving a chemical trail for other ants to follow their path. Adult queen ants are fertile females responsible for laying all the eggs in the colony. Adult female ants are wingless workers responsible for gathering food and feeding the larvae. Adult male ants are winged and they are responsible for mating with the queen ants.

Bees are highly social animals. They are often attracted to flowers because flower nectar is their primary source of energy. In a bee colony, there is only one queen bee. The queen’s sole purpose is to mate and lay eggs for her entire lifetime. Male drones serve to fertilize the queen. Infertile female worker bees perform the job of maintaining the hive.

Cockroaches invade human dwellings and are commonly found near garbage cans or in the kitchen. Cockroaches are nocturnal pests so seeing them roaming around the house during day time could mean they are already overcrowding and it is a sign of a serious infestation. They thrive in moist, warm places where food is present. Female cockroaches lay eggs with a protective reddish brown capsule-like case. They deposit their eggs in warm, humid, and dark areas. Cockroaches produce a chemical with a musty odor. A strong odor indicates a large population of cockroaches.

Fleas are small wingless parasites with shiny reddish-brown bodies capable of drawing blood from their hosts. Although these parasites cannot fly, fleas are capable of jumping long distances. Fleas prefer to dwell on furry pet animals like dogs and cats. A common sign of a flea infestation in pets is when they suffer uncontrollable scratching of their bodies. The scratching is caused by discomfort brought by flea bites as these parasites feed on the animal’s blood.

Flies are winged insects producing a buzzing sound when they fly. Flies are commonly found swarming on places with strong odors such as garbage disposal areas. They feed on filthy and decaying organisms. Flies breed in moist areas, especially on dead animals. Flies carry millions of microbes on their bodies, making them a transmitter of human diseases such as diarrhea and food poisoning.

Mosquitoes are winged insects known to transmit diseases such as malaria and dengue. Female mosquitoes feed on blood for survival, while the male mosquitoes prefer nectar from fruits and flowers. Female mosquitoes need blood to sustain the production of eggs. Mosquitoes breed on stagnant waters and are usually most active during dusk and in dark shady areas.

Termites are silent destroyers. They can be secretly thriving anywhere in the house where cellulose is present. A termite’s teeth can tear wood. This termite’s ability and feeding habit can be a cause of damage to properties. Termites reproduce on places with ideal humidity and moisture. Reproductive termites are essential in the colony’s survival. Their sole purpose is to mate and lay eggs. Soldier termites are responsible for defending the colony from attacks. The worker termites are responsible for finding food sources. A common indication of termite infestation is the presence of mud tunnels on walls.

Rodents are mammals with a specially developed front teeth adapted for chewing and gnawing a variety of items. Rodents are commonly found in dark and hard to reach places. Their bodies are flexible allowing them to squeeze through tight spaces. Rodents are rapid breeders. They maintain their population through constant reproduction. Rodents are extremely destructive animals and they also cause serious health threats to humans. They are home to disease-carrying fleas and ticks, their feces and urine can also transmit serious illness to humans.
